It is ignorant of the origin of brocade weaving profession.
However, pieces of brocade cloth of Tay ethnic group in Cao Bang are
very well known with colorful and nice patterns, bearing national
nuance. Many utensils in Tay families are made from brocade such as
blanket cover, cushion cover, tablecloth, bed cloth, etc.
Main
materials for weaving brocade is indigo dyed cotton thread and color
dyed silk. However, due to high price of silk, people use wool thread
instead of silk, as its price is lower. The process of weaving brocade
is totally hand made from shelf-made loom with some parts such as
classifiers, mechanical processed sizes. In Tay group, woman often does
this job, as it requires skillful hands and patience.
In Cao
Bang, brocade-weaving profession is developed greatly in Dao Ngan
Commune, Phu Ngoc (Ha Quang District) and Nuoc Hai town (Hoa An
District). Brocade products are abundant, nicer colors and patterns. It
is also a meaningful souvenir for visitors when they have chance to
visit Cao Bang.
